THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN at Wiper & True Taproom
YOU CAN’T SPELL ‘FRIEND’ WITHOUT ‘END’ IN THIS MODERN MASTERPIECE FROM THE MINDS BEHIND IN BRUGES
Our final film selection for Q1 at Wiper & True is a St Patrick’s Day screening of Martin McDonagh’s Oscar-nominated The Banshees Of Inisherin. The In Bruges director reunites Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell in this wickedly tragicomic tale of two friends falling out suddenly against the backdrop of the end of the Irish Civil War - both bleakly funny and scathingly angry, it’s a standout work for all involved and a modern classic that’s not to be missed. Ticket includes a free welcome pint from their draught range upon arrival, including delicious alcohol-free versions of the brewery’s flagship beers.

THE DARK FAIRYTALE MASTERPIECE MAKES ITS DEBUT VINTAGE SCREENINGS APPEARANCE FOR ITS 20TH ANNIVERSARY
2026 marks the 20th anniversary of firm Festival favourite Pan’s Labyrinth. Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning masterpiece is both hauntingly beautiful and brutally ugly, in its seamless blending of its surreal and sinister mythical realm with the harsh realities of the Spanish Civil War’s immediate aftermath. We’ve screened it many times over the past decade at a range of venues, and now for the first time we present it as a Vintage Screening, accompanied by a flight of Spanish wines in tribute to the film’s setting. This promises to be a spellbinding evening - book now to avoid disappointment.

A KNIGHT WITHOUT A CAUSE. A DRAGON WITHOUT A FRIEND. TOGETHER THEY’LL CHANGE THE WORLD
We’re heating things up at the Planetarium in April with a crossover fantasy double bill celebrating dragons on the big screen! First up is a 30th anniversary screening of Dragonheart. Sean Connery voices the last of the dragons in this heartwarming tale of misadventure, unlikely friendship and duty - it’s a loving homage to some of the swords-and-sorcery classics as well as buddy comedies from Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid onwards, with Oscar-nominated special effects utilising full CGI characters that helped pave the way for the likes of Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings. One for the whole family, especially the millennial inner child…!
THE SECRET OF SANTA VITTORIA at Averys Wine Cellars
SANTA VITTORIA’S WINE IS SUBLIME - BUT IS IT TO DIE FOR?
Our Q2 Vintage Screenings continue with a very special Festival debut, a digitally restored screening of The Secret Of Santa Vittoria. This wartime comedy-drama about an Italian village trying to hide over a million bottles of their precious local wine from the German occupation, starring Anthony Quinn as the unlikely mayor, is an allegorical satire that champions human endurance in the face of adversity. It will also make you very thirsty - so naturally, we’ll be pairing it with a flight of wines from Italy’s more rural regions, celebrating indigenous grapes and the spirit of Santa Vittoria. We’ll raise a glass to that!

This May, we’ll be celebrating two very different alien invasion films that both happen to be turning 30 in 2026… First up it’s Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks!. We’ve long been fans of Mr Burton’s filmography, but this is our first ever time screening his deliciously dark satire, which feels like a giddy mix of 50s B-movies and Dr Strangelove. Full of famous faces and plenty of laser beam-induced chaos, it’s a campy cult classic that will leave you in shock, awe - and going “Hey, what’s Tom Jones doing here…?”
BIG NIGHT: Wine & Pasta Night at Averys Wine Cellars
This film will make you hungry. Luckily, we have just the solution

Nolan and George Clayton Johnson, it’s a dazzling slice of 70s science fiction that pairs glossy blockbuster spectacle with surprisingly subversive ideas about youth, freedom, and control. Famous for its chilling “Carrousel” [sic] sequences, and Oscar-winning visual effects, it’s a bold product of the pre-digital era and a time-capsule of futuristic imagination.

After several years since we first screened it, Brooks’ outrageous satire of Westerns, the legendary Blazing Saddles, rides into Averys this June. We’ll be pairing this Oscar-nominated comedy with wines from the frontiers of the Wild West – but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be American…

SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING
Our nautical double bill continues in the Lexus Pavilion with a decidedly different take on the deep blue sea and the wildlife within… It can only be Steven Spielberg’s Jaws! The film that practically invented the concept of the summer blockbuster is bursting onto our screen this summer. Still as thrilling and spine-tingling as it was in 1975, this epic creature feature will remind you why you still get self-conscious wading any deeper than ankle-height in the sea – and how just two notes of music can instil more dread than you ever thought possible…

One of the Festival’s heroes, the great Mel Brooks, will be celebrating his 100th birthday in 2026, so we’ll be bringing some of his finest films to the Festival’s programme over the course of the year, from firm favourites to titles we’ve never screened before. First up - and frankly it’s criminal that we’ve not shown it already! - is his Oscar-winning 1967 directorial debut, The Producers. This incendiary dark comedy caused outrage in some quarters with its satirical musical sendup of the Nazi regime, but it remains one of Brooks’ career highlights, and helped make Gene Wilder a household name. It was also one of the last major Hollywood releases to rely solely on practical special effects, making it a homage to the craft of old school moviemaking through a 21st Century lens.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY: Epics @ Everyman
THREE MEN, ONE TREASURE STASH, NO EASY CHOICES
Back for 2026, it’s “Epics @ Everyman”, our quarterly partnership with Everyman Bristol screening classic films from across the decades, particularly those with longer run times, that you can enjoy from the comfort of their sofa seats. Our first selection for 2026 is a 60th anniversary screening of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly! Sergio Leone’s genre-defining spaghetti western is rightly hailed as one of the greatest films ever made; with its spine-tingling Ennio Morricone score, career highlight performance from Clint Eastwood and influence on cinema to come - including superfan Quentin Tarantino! - it’s a bloody, gritty and utterly captivating misadventure. Your ticket includes a complimentary drink, collected as you enter the cinema (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available).

NOTORIOUS at Averys Wine Cellars
THIS EXCEPTIONAL COLLABORATION BETWEEN HITCHCOCK AND AN ALL-STAR CAST HAS AGED LIKE A FINE WINE
Our Vintage Screenings in January continue with an 80th anniversary screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s Notorious. This gripping espionage thriller has hints of both film noir and romantic melodrama, and the central trio of standout performances from Ingrid Bergman, Bristol’s very own Cary Grant and Claude Rains make this one of Hitchcock’s finest films. Since an old wine cellar is one of the major locations in the film, this couldn’t be a more atmospheric setting - and we’ll be pairing the film with a flight of continental wines to fit the mood!
