BRASSED OFF at Summer Season 2026

  • Screen 2 West Mall Bristol, England, BS8 4BH United Kingdom (map)
Mark Herman’s film, from script to screen, is about as well constructed as any one British film from the past 50 years, and is a champion for the good of empathy, understanding, collective appreciation and love; a truly outstanding and remarkable piece of British cinema
— JOSEPH WADE (THE FILM MAGAZINE)

CINEMA DOORS: 14:20 | FILM STARTS: 14:30

Taking place in the beautiful Mall Gardens in the heart of Clifton Village, this is outdoor cinema with a twist. Relax in the Central Arena before the film, with drinks, displays, tastings and local food vendors, then make your way into one our two cinema spaces for the main event. With covered seating, a state-of-the-art LED screen and wireless headphones, enjoy your film come rain or shine - it's a Summer experience that’s not to be missed.

Arrive early to access to the inaugural Clifton Wine & Drinks Fair, which is taking place concurrently within the Central Arena - more information on this coming soon!

We’re delighted to present a 30th anniversary screening of Mark Herman’s poignant comedy-drama Brassed Off. The late, great Pete Postlethwaite – another esteemed alumnus of nearby Bristol Old Vic Theatre School – leads an ensemble cast in this story of Grimley Colliery Band and their dual struggle to reach the National Brass Band Finals against the backdrop of the increasing uncertainty about the future of the local mine.

Over 40 years on from the miners’ strikes, and over three decades since Grimethorpe Colliery (the film’s inspiration) closed for good, this underrated gem of modern British cinema has lost none of its pathos and charm.
