TWISTER at The Planetarium

  • The Planetarium We The Curious, Millennium Square, Bristol, BS1 5SZ United Kingdom (map)
The effects do for wind what ‘Jurassic Park’ did for dinosaurs [...] A must-see hoopla of computer trickery that weakens the knees and raises the neck-hairs. Like all white-knuckle rides, once you’re done you fancy doing it all over again
— Ian Nathan (Empire)

DOORS: 18:30 | FILM STARTS 18:45

We’re over the moon (pun intended) to be returning to the Planetarium at We The Curious for 2026; we’ve got a stellar series of space and sci-fi screenings lined up! Explore the Planetarium’s Space exhibition before the screening and see if you’re cut out for a life in space, then recline in this unique screening space. As the lights dim, your journey will begin with a tour of the Solar System in a Planetarium star show - the perfect way to set the scene for your film…

Hold on tight, because a 30th anniversary screening of Twister is blowing into the Planetarium this November! Devised and co-produced by Jurassic Park author Michael Crichton, this Oscar-nominated disaster movie’s SFX hold up to this day, and it deserves to be witnessed on the big screen. With an ensemble cast including Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton and Philip Seymour Hoffman - and it’s one of the rare disaster films where the protagonists are actively seeking out danger! - it’s a rollercoaster ride across storm-battered Oklahoma that will leave a smile on your face a mile wide.

About The Film

1996 | 12 | 113 mins

Meteorologist Jo Thornton has a personal grudge against tornados due to her tragic family history, so she’s determined to test her new ‘Dorothy’ device that could revolutionise research and lead to an early tornado warning system. But as Oklahoma’s skies turn cloudy and her path collides with her estranged husband and rival groups of storm chasers, it’s shaping up to be the storm of the century.

Contains moderate threat, injury detail, infrequent strong language
