We’ll be bringing two classic 80s blockbusters for some feel-good escapist entertainment to round off the summer holidays. First up is the timeless fairy tale adventure The Princess Bride. Packed with romance, wit, and swashbuckling action, this beloved classic brings together Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, and an unforgettable cast of characters for a story full of daring rescues, true love, and plenty of laughs. With iconic lines, fantastical creatures, and a dash of whimsy, The Princess Bride is a magical ride from start to finish. It’s time to gather your crew and prepare for a classic that’s as charming as it is quotable.
IT’S THE ULTIMATE HERO-VILLAIN SHOWDOWN IN THIS BROODING BATMAN BIG SCREEN SENSATION
We’re returning to Arnos Vale Cemetery in August for our first ever open-air screenings at this historic venue! We’ll be bringing two classic 80s blockbusters for some feel-good escapist entertainment to round off the summer holidays. Our second film is Tim Burton’s noir-tinged adaptation of Batman, which steered the franchise away from the campiness of the 60s show and back towards a darker interpretation of the Caped Crusader that set the benchmark for modern superhero films. Michael Keaton dons the cowl, but it’s Jack Nicholson threatening to steal the show as the Joker wreaking havoc on Gotham with a permanent smile on his face…
WINE, PASTA, AND ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATEST FILMS: IT’S AN OFFER YOU CAN’T REFUSE…
After two sell-out screenings of The Godfather in March, we’re continuing the saga - join us for an exceptional evening celebrating Francis Ford Coppola’s masterpiece sequel. The film will be accompanied by a tasting of carefully selected wines courtesy of Averys’ resident experts - and for a film as epic as The Godfather Part II, we’ll be pouring six Sicilian and southern Italian wines as opposed to the usual four! - as well as a meal during courtesy of Toff’s Pasta. It promises to be an epic evening worthy of a Corleone…
This film will make you hungry. Luckily, we have just the solution
After sold out screenings earlier this year, we’re adding a third screening to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Big Night, Stanley Tucci’s tragicomedy chronicling the misadventures of two Italian brothers gambling their struggling restaurant’s future on an epic meal for a special guest. Expect an Italian wine tasting alongside the film, as well as a mouth-watering meal courtesy of Toff’s Pasta, to accompany one of the greatest films about food, family and friendship ever made!
COMBINE THE BUBBLING CHARM OF THIS OSCAR-WINNING SENSATION WITH A CHAMPAGNE & SPARKLING WINE TASTING, & FRENCH SUPPER
We’re pulling out all the stops for this very special Vintage Screening in honour of World Champagne Day this October, with a screening of the Oscars record-breaking musical sensation Gigi! This charming tale of an unlikely romance blooming against the backdrop of the Belle Époque in Paris features an unforgettable score by the duo behind My Fair Lady, as well as Leslie Caron in one of her signature roles.
Like most Vintage Screenings, it is hosted in the stunning setting of Averys Wine Merchants’ historic wine cellar, where you’ll enjoy a sparkling wine reception. The film itself will be accompanied by a tasting of carefully selected sparkling wines courtesy of Averys’ resident experts, finishing on a classic champagne, naturellement…
After the film ends, you’ll enjoy a traditional French beef bourguignon bowl food meal (with vegan option available too) to round off a fantastic evening that will transport you back to a whimsical, wonderful time, and ‘The Night They Invented Champagne’!
THEY’RE CREEPY AND THEY’RE KOOKY, MYSTERIOUS AND SPOOKY, THEY’RE ALTOGETHER OOKY…
We’re returning to Arnos Vale Cemetery, Bristol’s very own necropolis, for the start of our Halloween Season 2026. Our first film for Halloween 2026 at this historic venue is the gloriously ghoulish The Addams Family, the family’s first feature film outing that is somehow turning 35 this year... Featuring a stellar ensemble cast – including Anjelica Huston and the late, great Raúl Juliá as Morticia and Gomez – this bona fide cult classic was voted Best Horror Film of 1991 by the Horror Hall of Fame. Yes, that’s right, this PG-rated family misadventure beat the likes of The Silence Of The Lambs!
“FEED ME, SEYMOUR!” - THE BELOVED MONSTER MOVIE MUSICAL CELEBRATES FOUR DECADES THIS HALLOWEEN
Our second film for Halloween 2026 at Arnos Vale is a 40th anniversary screening of the horticultural horrorshow Little Shop Of Horrors. This Oscar-nominated black comedy is based off the 1982 Alan Menken musical, and features Rick Moranis as the hapless florist who inadvertently creates a monster with a taste for human flesh and a mean baritone singing voice. A bona fide cult classic, whether you’re a first time viewer or a die-hard fan - there’s always room for a little more Audrey II in your life…!
“OH, NO, NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAAAAHHHHH! OH, THEY'RE IN MY EYES! MY EYES! AAAAHHHHH! AUGHGHGHGHGBLGHGHGH”
Closing off our first night at Arnos Vale this Halloween is a 20th anniversary screening of the 2006 remake of The Wicker Man, starring Nicolas Cage. Look, we know exactly what we’re doing here. What the film lacked in genuine scares, it made up for in unintentional comedy, endless memes (THE BEES!!), one of Cage’s finest freakout performances - and the end result is a glorious piece of absurdist, surreal comedy-horror that even the makers acknowledge works better when you place your tongue firmly in your cheek throughout. If loving this film is wrong, then we don’t want to be right.
THIS FRIGHTENINGLY FANTASTICAL TALE IS AS GLEEFULLY MEAN-SPIRITED AS THE BELOVED ROALD DAHL SOURCE MATERIAL
Our second night at Arnos Vale for Halloween 2026 roars to life with a screening of The Witches. This 1990 adaptation of the hauntingly spooky Roald Dahl children’s novel was directed by none other than Nicolas Roeg - the man behind the nightmare fuel that was Don’t Look Now, no less! - and features Anjelica Huston at her most menacing as the Grand High Witch. Whether you were scarred as a child the first time round or have yet to experience this film’s dark fantasy delights, it’s a perfect watch for ghoulish children and ghoulish inner children alike!
HORROR HAS SELDOM BEEN AS ELEGANTLY AND EFFORTLESSLY MASTERFUL AS THIS CLASSIC, TIMELESS CHILLER FROM THE VAULTS
Our second night at Arnos Vale for Halloween 2026 continues with a 65th anniversary showing of the psychological horror The Innocents, starring Deborah Kerr and Bristol’s own Michael Redgrave. Based off the classic Henry James novella The Turn Of The Screw and co-written by Truman Capote, it remains one of the finest Gothic ghost stories ever committed to film and still has the power to shock and chill, influencing everyone from Martin Scorsese to Kate Bush to Guillermo del Toro. Another must-watch for any true fan of the genre.
TIME HAS DONE NOTHING TO DIMINISH THE IMPACT OF THIS MASTERFUL AND MOODY CULT CLASSIC
Our Halloween 2026 screenings at Arnos Vale conclude with a 25th anniversary screening of the inimitable Donnie Darko. Surreal, haunting and defying easy categorisation to this day, it’s an indie cult gem with Lynchian overtones, melding suburban ennui and teenage angst with mind-bending themes of time travel, fate and the terrors of the subconscious. If you’ve never seen it, stop making excuses after a quarter of a century and follow the big, scary rabbit…
