“[1962’s Some People] still ranks as one of the more nuanced portraits of youth to be produced in this country”
CINEMA DOORS: 14:45| FILM STARTS: 14:55
Taking place in the beautiful Mall Gardens in the heart of Clifton Village, this is outdoor cinema with a twist. Relax in the Central Arena before the film, with drinks, displays, tastings and local food vendors, then make your way into one our two cinema spaces for the main event. With covered seating, a state-of-the-art LED screen and wireless headphones, enjoy your film come rain or shine - it's a Summer experience that’s not to be missed.
Thursday sees our ‘Bristol In Focus’ event in the Mall Gardens. As the name suggests, this day focuses on films that were either made in the city, feature actors associated with the city, or were written, produced or directed by Bristolians.
In addition, throughout the day we will be hosting a summer gifts fair, promoting small and independent Bristol-based producers. Arrive early and explore!
You can’t get much more “Bristol In Focus” than Clive Donner’s slice-of-life drama Some People! Shot entirely on location in Bristol and showcasing everywhere from South Bristol Baths to Lockleaze – and even featuring a test flight of the Bristol 188 – it’s a time capsule view into a bygone era of the city.
Besides the fascinating reminder of 60s Bristol, it’s also a snapshot of early 60s teen cultur4e, as seen through the eyes of Kenneth More’s aeronautical engineer-turned-youth worker (and as commissioned by the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme!). A quirky, charming piece of British cinema, with a memorable soundtrack to boot.
