Joker

2019 | 15 | 119 mins

This bold possible origin story for Batman’s most infamous nemesis follows Arthur Fleck, a wannabe stand-up comedian struggling to survive in a vicious Gotham. As his descent into madness and nihilism deepens, his actions begin to stir a violent movement that threatens to topple the status quo in the troubled city.

STARRING: Joaquin Phoenix | Robert De Niro | Zazie Beetz | Frances Conroy

DIRECTOR: Todd Phillips

PRODUCER: Todd Phillips | Bradley Cooper | Emma Tillinger Koskoff

WRITTEN BY: Todd Phillips | Scott Silver

THEY SAY:Joker would work just as well as an engrossing character study without any of its DC Comics trappings; that it just so happens to be a brilliant Batman-universe movie is icing on the Batfan cake” – IGN, 2019

WE SAY: A harrowing character study that’s a world away from the usual superhero/supervillain bombast, this controversial and deeply unsettling film owes a huge debt to Scorsese (particularly Taxi Driver and The King Of Comedy, both also starring De Niro!). Phoenix is eerily hypnotic, and a potential contender for Best Actor Oscar.
