“Part avant-garde art film, part amusing but morbid fairy tale, it is a delightfully ghoulish holiday musical that displays more inventiveness in its brief 75 minutes than some studios can manage in an entire year”

As the countdown to Christmas reaches its close, we look forward to welcoming you to one of Bristol’s most dramatic venues – the stunning Mount Without! Formerly a church dating from the 15th Century, this recently revived creative space on St. Michael’s Hill boasts a rich history. Enjoy a drink in the Crypt, before watching films in the Grade-II listed nave, which has been stunningly restored to combine stained-glass windows and centuries-old masonry with a unique contemporary twist.
On our final day of screenings of 2025, we’ll be starting the evening with a screening of the macabre musical masterpiece The Nightmare Before Christmas. Join Jack Skellington and the inhabitants of Halloween Town for this beloved stop-motion misadventure from the mind of Tim Burton, with its unique, whimsically spooky spin on the festive season. It’s ideal Christmastime viewing for those who steer clear of saccharine sweetness in favour of something more offbeat, but still ultimately uplifting and heart-thawing…!
About The Film
1993 | PG | 76 mins
In the perpetually spooky world of Halloween Town, Jack Skellington grows weary of the same annual festivities. When he stumbles by chance upon another world, Christmas Town, his desire to host his own version of Christmas borders on the obsessive; will Jack’s plans come together, or will he lose everything he cares about?
Contains mild scary scenes
About The Location
There has been a church on this site for over 900 years, with the original structure dating back to the Norman era; the unusual name comes from an era when it was outside the city’s walls. After major renovation works in the late 18th Century, and again after damage from the Bristol Blitz, the church finally closed its doors and was deconsecrated in 1999. The building was the victim of an arson attack in 2016, but after years of restoration work it has now reopened as one of Bristol’s most unique and characterful new event spaces.
