THE LAVENDER HILL MOB at Averys Wine Cellars

  • Averys Wine Merchants 9 Culver Street Bristol, England, BS1 5LD United Kingdom (map)
‘The Lavender Hill Mob’ will never stale or wither [...] Helped by a peerless script and a great team of actors, the film is both a joyous comedy and a tense thriller. Indeed, its climactic car-chase sequence is easily as dramatic as any of those found in today’s summer blockbusters
— Sukhdev Sandhu (Daily Telegraph)

DOORS: 18:45 | FILM STARTS 19:00

Vintage Screenings pair classic films with thematically linked wine tastings to create unique evenings in the stunning setting of Averys Wine Merchants’ historic wine cellar. Following a sparkling wine reception, the film will be accompanied by a tasting of four carefully selected wines courtesy of Averys’ resident experts, guiding you through them at stages during the film.

Regulars will know that we have a fond spot for Ealing Comedies, and so we’re delighted to announce this 75th anniversary screening of The Lavender Hill Mob. Alec Guinness is on top form as a mild-mannered bank clerk who dreams up an audacious gold bullion heist with a scheme so outrageously simple, it’s surely the perfect crime - or is it? This gleeful sendup of the crime genre went on to inspire Alfred Hitchcock and remains ranked among the funniest British films ever made - and we’ll be pairing it with some wines inspired by the characters and settings!

Take your evening further with our add-on options:

  • Enjoy a pre-screening wine tasting session as you learn more about wine tasting over a glass

  • Indulge with a delicious L'Affinage Du Fromage deli box, with cheeses, chutney and crackers to enjoy alongside your film and wine

Please note that Vintage Screenings are strictly for over-18s only
