Brimming with energy and packed with humour, ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ distils kung fu B-movies as affectionately as it subverts them

DOORS: 14:30 | FILM STARTS 14:45

This October our “mini-fest” series returns to Bristol Improv Theatre with a day dedicated to the cult director and composer John Carpenter!

Twice a year, we host a one-day event dedicated to the works of great directors and actors, showcasing a selection of highlights from their filmography. Stop by Bristol Improv Theatre’s bar before or after the film to enjoy a John Carpenter-themed cocktail, then take your seats in this intimate venue for an introduction from festival director Owen, explaining the context and significance of the film.

Our John Carpenter mini-fest continues with the cult kung-fu comedy classic Big Trouble in Little China. A riotous blend of martial arts, fantasy, action-adventure and a healthy dose of spooky fantasy, this rollercoaster of a film is also notable for Kurt Russell’s hilarious turn as possibly the least heroic hero in action movie history…

Can’t choose a favourite, or want to make a marathon out of it? We’re now offering discounts on individual screenings when you book for more than one, or a full day pass option! You can book your day pass below, or if you want to ‘pick and mix’ 2-3 films then this option will be available at checkout when you order a standard ticket for this screening.

About The Film

1986 | 15 | 99 mins

Truck driver Jack Burton only accompanies his friend Wang Chi to the airport to make sure he follows through on paying out on a bet. But a fateful encounter means that Jack and Wang inadvertently get drawn into a dark and dangerous criminal underworld beneath San Francisco’s Chinatown, where an evil sorcerer seeks to lift an ancient curse…

About The Location

The Bristol Improv Theatre is the UK’s first full-time dedicated improv theatre, hosting troupes from all over the UK and overseas, bringing world-class improv to Bristol. Through crowdfunding and the efforts of over 40 volunteers, the founders transformed this former-Victorian-schoolhouse-turned-working-mens-club-cum-live-music-venue into a purpose-built theatre space, with licensed bar, rehearsal rooms and office.

Bristol Improv Theatre is our new home for screenings of classic musical films, as well as our “mini-fests” paying homage to great directors and actors.
