Vintage Screenings combine fantastic films with themed wine tastings in the stunning setting of Averys Wine Merchants’ historic wine cellar.
This February, treat yourself to an evening of whimsical romance with the international hit Amélie. Begin your evening with a sparkling wine reception, before a short introduction to the film from festival director Owen Franklin. During the film, enjoy a tasting of four French wines alongside the film, selected and led by one of Averys’ resident experts.
This event is strictly for over 18s: ID may be required to secure entry. The film will be screened in French with English Subtitles. Please read more in our ‘Important Information’ section before booking.
Jeunet’s irrestible film revolves around Amélie (Audrey Tautou), a shy and eccentric waitress living and working in Paris’ beating heart. After she discovers a stranger’s childhood time capsule, Amélie resolves to return it, while committing anonymous acts of kindness to better the lives of the people around her – but can these kind deeds ever make up for her own sense of loneliness?
Starring: Audrey Tautou | Mathieu Kassovitz
Directed: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Screenplay: Guillame Laurant
Produced: Jean-Marc Deschamps
THEY SAY: “Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Amelie is one of those once-in-a-decade comedies which scatters its charm like pearls from a broken necklace, all the more adorable because they are not real.” (Barbara Ellen, The Times)
WE SAY: Amélie is an utterly charming, creative and original piece from a director whose earlier works incongruously included films including Alien: Resurrection. Audrey Tautou delivers a remarkable central performance, and the film leaves the viewer with a uplifting and altogether more optimistic view of human nature.
