ABOUT A BOY at Wiper & True Taproom

  • Wiper and True Brewery & Taproom Unit 11, City Business Park Bristol, England, BS5 0SP United Kingdom (map)
Hugh Grant has grown up, holding on to his lightness and witty cynicism but losing the stuttering sherry-club mannerisms that were once his signature. In doing so, he has blossomed into the rare actor who can play a silver-tongued sleaze with a hidden inner decency
— Owen Gleiberman (Entertainment Weekly)

DOORS: 18:30 | FILM STARTS 18:50

We’re partnering with our friends at Wiper and True in Q1 of 2026 for some more comedy screenings from the British Isles. Head to this award-winning local brewery’s taproom in Old Market and enjoy a free welcome pint from their draught range upon arrival, including delicious alcohol-free versions of their famous Kaleidoscope pale ale and Tomorrow lager. The taproom is open after the film ends.

Our February screening at Wiper & True is the adaptation of Nick Hornby’s bestselling novel About A Boy. It’s one of Hugh Grant’s finest performances as he plays a much more cynical antihero than his foppish 90s romcom persona, with a double act alongside a young Nicholas Hoult in his breakthrough role. At turns both laugh-out-loud funny and achingly poignant, it’s a bittersweet misadventure with plenty of heart for those seeking a less saccharine spin on a feel-good film for February!

NB: this screening will be subtitled

Please note that this event is strictly for over-18s only
