“It may be the finest thing Attenborough has ever done”
DOORS: 18:15 | EVENT BEGINS: 18:45
We’re thrilled to announce our screening of David Attenborough’s stunning documentary, A Life On Our Planet, screened with kind permission from the World Wildlife Fund.
Bristol is an international hub for wildlife filmmaking, with the BBC’s Natural History unit opening here almost 70 years ago; this powerful film was created by award-winning Bristol-based production company Silverback Films, who have worked with David Attenborough for more than 40 years. We’re delighted to be joined by one of the film’s directors, Jonnie Hughes, along with other key members of the creative team, who will start the evening with a fascinating behind-the-scenes discussion of the work that goes into creating such breathtaking content. There will be a Q&A opportunity after the film as well.
Join us for this very special screening of one of the most important documentaries of the century so far, and hear from some of the local talent behind its creation - it’s not to be missed!
About The Film
2020 | PG | 82 mins
David Attenborough has visited every continent on the globe, exploring the wild places of our planet and documenting the living world in all its variety and wonder. Now, for the first time he reflects upon both the defining moments of his lifetime as a naturalist and the devastating changes he has seen. Honest, revealing and urgent, this is a powerful first-hand account of humanity’s impact on nature and a message of hope for future generations.
Created by award-winning natural history filmmakers Silverback Films and global conservation organisation WWF, the film is directed by Alastair Fothergill, Jonnie Hughes and Keith Scholey and Executive Produced by Colin Butfield.

About Jonnie Hughes
Jonnie Hughes has produced and directed science and natural history films for the BBC, PBS, National Geographic and Netflix. He was Supervising Producer attached to Netflix’s Emmy award-winning Our Planet (2019) and producer/director on the multi-award winning David Attenborough A Life on Our Planet (2020). In October 2020, Jonnie joined forces with Colin Butfield, previously an Executive Director at WWF, to create Open Planet Studios, an impact producer with a mission to use the power of filmmaking to take the climate and nature story to as big an audience as possible. Since then, he has produced hundreds of impact films from a short played to the G7 by Boris Johnson to a landmark BBC series about The Earthshot Prize featuring Prince William. In 2025, Open Planet Studios will release two feature documentaries – Ocean with David Attenborough ahead of the UN Ocean Conference in Nice and Biodiversity ahead of COP30 in Brazil – and a blockbuster immersive experience in the Natural History Museum, London. In 2023, Jonnie and Colin launched Open Planet, an open-source footage library of world class shots, to ensure that anyone can make films about the planet in this crucial decade without having to pay licensing fees. Jonnie has authored four books on science and the environment.
