Kick off World Cup season with a screening of ESCAPE TO VICTORY
What better way to warm up for a month’s coverage of the “beautiful game’s” most prestigious tournament than with a screening of one of the best-loved football films of all time?
On Thursday 14th June we will be screening Escape To Victory, in an evening celebrating the start of the World Cup season. The event will be held in Clifton College’s Pre School Hall, with an introductory talk and Q&A with Russell Osman, local footballer and a star of the film.
Russell’s illustrious playing history includes international caps, and he has managed both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers during his off-pitch career. He’ll be joining us to discuss the making of Escape To Victory – and show off some impressive memorabilia from the set! – as well as taking Q&As from the audience, before the film is shown on the big screen in Clifton College’s Pre School Hall.
The film tells the story of a daring escape attempt from a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War Two, during an exhibition match between German Army officers and imprisoned Allied Troops. Starring Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone as well as Bobby Moore, Pelé, and a host of footballing legends including Russell, it’s a unique opportunity to discover, or rediscover, one of the finest football films ever made.
Escape To Victory is a British classic, with a unique mix of world-class actors and famous footballers playing alongside each other. We can’t wait to hear Russell Osman’s first-hand account of his experiences!
