THEY LIVE

1988 | 15 | 90 mins

After chancing upon a mysterious pair of sunglasses, a Los Angeles drifter is shocked to find that wearing them exposes heinous subliminal propaganda and an alien race controlling the elite to keep the population in line. He resolves to save the world from this dystopia – but will anybody else take him seriously?

STARRING: Roddy Piper | Keith David | Meg Foster

DIRECTED: John Carpenter

WRITTEN: John Carpenter

PRODUCED: Larry Franco

THEY SAY: “Look at what it does to people, look at how it emboldens and provokes… fIt’s disturbing and ridiculous and outrageous and uncomfortable, but I think it’s the kind of great movie that doesn’t really need defense, it just needs to be given the air.”– Jonathan Lethem, 2010

WE SAY: A cult favourite and a surprise (if brief) box office hit, this enticing blend of sci-fi, horror and comedy still retains its relevance and urgency to this today – and if you’ve never seen THAT alley brawl fight sequence, you’re in for a particular treat…!
