The Raid

2011 | 18 | 99 mins

In the slums of Jakarta, an elite SWAT team mount a dawn raid on a high-rise building controlled by a notorious drug baron. But their cover is soon blown, and the team find themselves in a desperate fight for survival, with dozens of hostile criminals – and multiple storeys – standing between them and freedom…

Starring: Iko Uwais | Joe Taslim | Donny Alamsyah | Yayan Rhian
Director: Gareth Evans
Screenplay: Gareth Evans
Producer: Ario Sagantoro

THEY SAY: “Gareth Evans, Iko Uwais, and Ruhian took all the time they needed to get it right (six months of rehearsal and three months of shooting). Their continuity of work has enabled them to build a level of trust that lets them push their brand of cinematic physicality further forward. The result isn’t a guilty pleasure, or a B-list action movie, but a purely cinematic experience that is, in every sense, breathless.” – Grady Hendrix, Film Comment, 2012

WE SAY: ,The Raid expertly combines stunning martial arts and stunt sequences with brutal combat and a tightly wound plot that ratchets up the tension with each passing minute – try and remember to breathe while you’re watching it.
