The Poseidon Adventure

1972 | 15 | 112 mins

As the luxury liner S.S. Poseidon crosses the Atlantic on New Year’s Eve, it’s struck by a freak tidal wave and capsized. Trapped inside, the survivors must work together to escape the doomed ship, navigating a labyrinth where the slightest mistake or wrong turn could mean death.

STARRING: Gene Hackman | Ernest Borgnine | Red Buttons | Carol Lynley | Shelly Winters | Roddy McDowall

DIRECTED: Ronald Neame

WRITTEN: Stirling Stilliphant | Wendell Mayes

PRODUCED: Irwin Allen

THEY SAY: “It remains the most beloved of the entire maligned genre: a guilty pleasure to end all guilty pleasures. Which is precisely what it’s not. What the glittering, star-driving survivalism of The Poseidon Adventureactually presents is a nightmarishly schematic fantasia of guiltless discomfort.” – Guy Henderson, Slant Magazine, 2006

WE SAY: There aren’t many Oscar-winning disaster movies, but The Poseidon Adventure was nominated for nine and won two. The concept is simple, but it’s the execution that makes this such a treat – tense, bleak and water-logged, it puts its cast – who mainly perform their own stunts – through their paces. Come and watch it on one of the few ships that we can guarantee won’t capsize…
