A haunted film that leaps beyond its origins and becomes an engrossing tragedy. It creates characters we come to care about. That’s because of the performances, because of the direction, because of the writing, and because of the superlative technical quality of the entire production. This film [redefinies] the possibilities of the “comic-book” movie

DOORS: 15:45 | FILM STARTS 16:00

It’s March, which can only mean one thing: we’re back at Redcliffe Caves for a weekend of subterranean screenings!

Bristol Film Festival's Underground Cinema is an unforgettable way to discover, or rediscover, some of the silver screen’s hidden gems, pop culture milestones and genre highlights. Delve deep into one of the most unique locations in Bristol, and forget about the outside world for a couple of hours. Whether you’re settling down for a favourite fantasy film or a cult classic, it’s sure to be one of the year’s most memorable movie viewing experiences.

Continuing our Batman day at Redcliffe Caves is Christopher Nolan’s brooding epic The Dark Knight. One of the rare sequels that outshines its predecessor, this acclaimed chapter in the Dark Knight trilogy sees Bruce Wayne fighting for everything he holds dear as his world is turned upside down by the chaotic Joker (Heath Ledger, in an unforgettable performance that saw him posthumously win an Oscar).

Please note: Redcliffe Caves is a unique event space - we highly recommend all guests read the ‘Venue & Event Information’ tab at this bottom of this page prior to booking.

About The Film

1985 | 12A | 152 mins

Batman forms an alliance with District Attorney Harvey Dent and police lieutenant Jim Gordon in order to bring down organised crime in Gotham. However, their plans are derailed by the arrival of the enigmatic Joker, whose anarchic plans seem designed to push Batman to the limits of his moral code - and his sanity.

Contains strong fantasy violence and sustained threat

About The Location

Redcliffe Caves are one of the most fascinating locations in Bristol. Originally created to mine sandstone glass in the 17th Century, these caves (technically a quarry!) have a rich and varied history, having been used by hermits, prisoners of war, and even as an air raid shelter. Now, they are accessed through a gate on the Harbourside, and are usually closed to the public.

Group Bookings

Our Group Bookings option has been introduced in response to the larger parties of six or more people who attend our events and are looking to add something extra to their evening to enhance the experience.

Groups enjoy a private cocktail reception in one of the subterranean chambers, before embarking on a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of the Caves before the film begins. Once you have explored this amazing underground space, take your reserved seats in the main chamber for the screening itself.
