Master and Commander

2003 | 12A | 142 mins

In the height of the Napoleonic Wars, veteran sailor Jack Aubrey captains HMS Surprise in its mission to destroy the French vessel Acheron off the coast of South America. After being ambushed by the ship, which appears superior to his own, Aubrey is drawn into a dangerous game of cat and mouse.

STARRING: Russell Crowe | Paul Bettany | James D’Arcy | Chris Larkin

DIRECTOR: Peter Weir

PRODUCER: Samuel Goldwyn Jr. | Duncan Henderson | Peter Weir

WRITTEN BY: Peter Weir | John Collee, based on the novels by Patrick O’Brian

THEY SAY: “Oak solid and unsinkable, Master And Commander is old-fashioned entertainment crafted with considerable care” – Empire, 2003

WE SAY: While the SS Great Britain’s interior trimmings may be little more luxurious than the conditions facing Aubrey’s crew, the ship’s maiden voyage was just 40 years after the events of this film! A rollicking, salt-stained adventure on a grand scale with Crowe and Bettany brilliantly complementing each other, this Oscar-winning spectacle is not to be missed.

Enjoy a sparkling wine reception in the ship’s Dry Dock, themed canapés on the Promenade Deck, and a film screening in the ship’s First Class Saloon. See images below for an idea of what to expect:
