ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK

1981 | 15 | 95 mins

In an alternate timeline, where Manhattan has been turned into a prison island fortress, the U.S. President is flying to a summit to end a vicious global war, when his plane is brought down over Manhattan. The President escapes the wreck but is now trapped in the notorious superprison – with limited time to avert a global catastrophe, a former Special Forces convict is coerced into undertaking a daring rescue mission in exchange for his freedom.

STARRING: Kurt Russell | Lee Van Cleef | Ernest Borgnine | Donald Pleasance | Isaac Hayes | Harry Dean Stanton

WRITTEN: John Carpenter | Nick Castle

PRODUCED: Larry Franco | Debra Hill

THEY SAY: “John Carpenter is offering this summer’s moviegoers a rare opportunity: to escape from the air-conditioned torpor of ordinary entertainment into the hothouse humidity of their own paranoia. It’s a trip worth taking.” – Richard Corliss, Time, 1981

WE SAY: The first of our matinee screenings celebrating one of the most prolific genre directors of all time – to be honest it’s difficult to know where to start, but Kurt Russell swayed us on this one…
