Our In Flight Entertainment screenings return to Aerospace Bristol this March – this time we’re harking back to the so-called Golden Age of air travel with Spielberg’s superlatively slick crime caper Catch Me If You Can!
Step back into the Swinging Sixties as you come face to face with Concorde Alpha Foxtrot, the last of its kind to be built and the last to fly. You’ll have a chance to board the iconic plane before settling down to watch the film beneath its wings. There’s also a Sixties-inspired classic cocktail to preorder, as well as a bar on the night, and naturally we’ll have music playlist for the night to make the Rat Pack proud.

Based on a remarkable true story, Catch Me If You Can follows the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., who became the youngest person ever to make the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. After his family come into financial difficulties, Frank turns to confidence scamming – his natural talents lead him to live multiple fantastical lives, including an airline pilot and a top doctor, while a humble FBI agent dedicates all of his efforts to tracking him down.
THEY SAY: “A deeply moving, quite wonderfully acted coming-of-age black comedy, packed with equal measures of pathos and plain fun […] This is as sophisticated as modern moviemaking gets, Spielberg’s most deft handling of comedy to date, and a shot of pure class straight into the heart of cinema. Thought Ocean’s Eleven was cool and sexy? Trust us, this is too.” – Empire, 2003
WE SAY: Spielberg clearly has fun unravelling a story that would be outrageously fantastical were it not based on true events. It has its surprisingly profound and darker moments, but these round out the film and merely enhance the wicked sense of fun and boundless energy that keeps it racing along. It’s hard to know whether to root more for the fun-loving criminal Leo, or the beleaguered Tom Hanks!
