Close-Up: Vintage Screenings
Between now and the launch of our Spring series in March, we will be posting a series of ‘close-ups’ on our various series. Bristol Film Festival runs 10 key series throughout the year, which cover a range of differently themed film events. The first close-up will be the Vintage Screenings.
Vintage Screenings are the screenings we run most regularly throughout the year, and indeed have been a staple of the festival since its first weekend back in March 2015. Run in partnership with Averys Wine Merchants, this series sees classic films screened in Averys historic wine cellars – alongside a themed wine tasting.
Following a sparkling wine reception, guests enjoy a tasting of four wines themed to the movie – for example, wines that would have stood up to a gourmet meal with Hannibal Lecter for Silence Of The Lambs, or a whistle-stop tour of Europe and its wines with 007 in From Russia with Love.
Other past screenings have included Sideways, Casablanca and Hunt For The Wilderpeople (with wines provided by star Sam Neill’s vineyard Two Paddocks). We’ve also been lucky enough to partner up with the brilliant Cary Grant Festival, to screen two classics: Notorious and Arsenic & Old Lace.
This year, expect to see us at Averys for an alternative Valentine screening of Groundhog Day on 16th February. Following that, Vintage Screenings are planned for:
- 9th March – Little Miss Sunshine
- 10th March – The Third Man
- 25th May – Midnight In Paris
- 4th June – The Talented Mr. Ripley (subject to license)
Tickets usually cost £25, and include a drink on arrival and your wine tasting. Find out more and purchase tickets by checking out the ‘Vintage Screenings’ tag on our event calendar.
