About: Bristol in Focus
Between now and the launch of our Spring series in March, we will be posting a series of ‘close-ups’ on our various series. Bristol Film Festival runs 10 key series throughout the year, which cover a range of differently themed film events.
Bristol In Focus is the strand of films dedicated to celebrating all the city has to offer in terms of filmmaking talent. Whether this is aa short film showcase, feature films, talks from local filmmakers or walkthroughs of filming spaces, the series is designed to highlight local talent.
One popular element of this series has been tours of The Bottle Yard Studios, a film and tv studio facility that has seen filming from a number of celebrated productions, including Poldark and Sherlock. The regular short film showcase has also proved to be a hit – offering the chance for local people to experience a range of short films made in and around the city.
We were delighted to work with Knowle West Media Centre in June last year to host an evening of short films from their ‘From Her P.O.V.’ project, a course designed to offer training in various areas to women interested in pursuing a career in filmmaking. This year, we are planning to host our ‘Bristol In Focus’ events in the summer, offering a weekend of independent local film in venues across the city.
